Checkups That Build Healthy Habits Early
A cleaning and exam is the foundation of your child's dental health, and at Bright Star Kids Dentistry it is also our chance to help your child feel at home in the dental chair. Our Reunion team designs every checkup around comfort first: friendly faces, kid-sized explanations, and plenty of patience for wiggly first timers.
Regular visits give the dentist a chance to follow how baby teeth and adult teeth are developing, check the gums and bite, and notice small changes before they become harder to manage. The schedule can vary with age, home care, risk factors, and previous dental findings, so we explain the reason for any recommendation instead of treating every child exactly the same.

What We Do During a Cleaning and Exam
Each visit starts with a gentle cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from your child's teeth, followed by a careful exam of the teeth, gums, and bite. We look at how the baby and adult teeth are coming in, check for early signs of decay, and note anything worth watching between visits.
Before we do anything, we show your child the tools and explain what will happen in words they can understand. Afterwards, we talk with you about what we found, answer your questions, and share simple brushing and diet tips that fit your child's age. If X-rays would help us see more, we will explain why first.
- Gentle cleaning to remove plaque and tartar
- Exam of teeth, gums, and bite development
- Kid-friendly explanations before every step
- Parents welcome in the treatment room when it helps
- Personalized home-care tips for your child’s age

Who Benefits From Regular Pediatric Checkups?
Every child benefits from a clear preventive plan, but the timing and emphasis can change as the mouth develops. Younger children may need short visits that build trust, while older children may need more attention to flossing, sports protection, nutrition, or orthodontic development.
A checkup is also a chance to connect separate concerns. A child with frequent cavities may benefit from a conversation about fluoride, sealants, drinks, and snack timing. A child who is nervous may need a slower introduction. A child with special needs may need a customized communication or sensory plan. We use what we learn to make the next visit more useful.
If cost or insurance questions affect your family's schedule, call before delaying care. Our team can explain the visit and help you understand the next practical step without guessing at coverage.

What to Expect at Your Child's Checkup
Hello and show around
We welcome your child, introduce the team, and let them explore the chair and tools. Feeling comfortable comes first, before any cleaning begins. A first visit may be shorter than a routine checkup if that is what your child needs.
Gentle cleaning
We clean and polish your child’s teeth, moving at their pace and pausing whenever they need a break. Many children are surprised by how easy it feels.
Careful exam
The dentist checks each tooth, the gums, and how the bite is developing, and reviews any X-rays we recommended for your child’s age and needs.
Plan and celebrate
We review the visit with you, answer questions, and share home-care guidance. Ask our team about the No Cavity Kids Club and its current details, or about another preventive service that may support your child’s smile.
Why Families Choose Us for Checkups
Care at your child’s pace
We never rush a child who needs more time. Breaks, questions, and do-overs are all part of a normal visit for us. A calm pace also gives parents time to understand what the team sees and what to practice at home.
Parents stay close
Your presence can make all the difference for a young child. You are welcome in the treatment room when it helps your child feel secure.
Everyone is welcome
Our Reunion office provides a welcoming environment for children with special needs, and we adapt visits to your child’s comfort level. Share what helps your child communicate, transition, or relax so we can prepare the visit around those needs.
Clear Family Communication
We make time for questions and explain next steps in clear, family-friendly language.
